Review: The Warrior Mindset

I am the kind of person who loves reading books that help inspire people. And it has been a way for me to express how I feel about certain situations through writing an inspirational blog which I have written more than 4 years ago. I have read “Chicken Soup for the Soul” and “The Purpose- Driven Life” and have treated it as my “heart softener” – a reminder of reality. They are books that have helped me go through my everyday struggles, to have a better understanding of what life is and to be happy despite everything that may not have gone the way I planned.

I came across an e-book entitled “The Warrior Mindset”, written by Armando Bartolome. He is one of the well-sought business consultants and the man behind the success of a lot of big companies in the Philippines including Mang Inasal, Julie’s Bakeshop, and Fiorgelato, just to name a few. Being in the business for so many years, he did not only focus on how to help build the business of the people who sought his help, but he also speaks like a father to them in a way that these aspiring entrepreneurs may be able to develop not only entrepreneurial skills and attitudes but to become a great and strong individual. I know that it is something that would be interesting not only for me but for everyone. It is composed of 8 small chapters which tackled about how one should toughen up even during the most trying times in one’s life.

I know most of us would instantly back off when caught in a difficult situation and dread having to face another day full of regret and frustration. But that should not be the way on how we should live our lives. If we expect too much without doing anything to make it possible, and things go south, that is the time when we get hurt the most.

I grew up living a simple life and I am thankful that even though I may not have what others may have, I am happy. And it is something that I also teach my kids- to learn how to be contented with what is present, but, if there is an opportunity to make things better, to start making a difference in a positive way.

With “The Warrior Mindset” it teaches us to be greater than our fears, to accept defeat and imperfection. Nothing in this world, no matter how well-planned you have made things, can never be as perfect as you want it to be. They say you can come up with a fool-proof plan, but somewhere along the way, challenges may arise which we should be prepared to face and create solutions to get out of the hole.

The warrior mindset is taking risks but, not to the extent of hurting others. Your goal should be something that can benefit you and others, rather than make yourself above everyone else. You don’t need to be in a battle to have that tough skin. A warrior mindset is reaching for things that you have always aspired, going through life’s obstacles and being triumphant in the end.

Going through all 8 chapters, it was like a small voice speaking to me to take life both seriously and with ease. Life is truly never easy. But, if we accept the fact that there are changes bound to happen, we must embrace them all and learn to go with the flow. When you try to do something for yourself or for someone, this means that it entails responsibility and possible consequences which you should not fear. Be bold but be cautious. Be wild but gentle. It is a little complicated to think with the contradicting statements, however, there is always a way, a better way on how you see things that life has presented to you.

To be a warrior, you need to have positive traits. These should not be just for presenting yourself half-heartedly to people because, to begin with, you are falling yourself short of who you really are. Why is it that others just seem to do the wrong things or decisions without batting an eyelash while doing a good deed takes a lot of time to do? If we center our thoughts on how everyone can benefit from our decision, it is easy to just do things for others and be happy.

The whole e-book just tells us one thing – to be strong and brave as a lion, but to have a gentle heart, as well. Regardless of what religious congregation you belong to, you are human who needs to be strong and withstand all the blows that life may throw at you and still come out happy, contented and grateful.

It only took me less than an hour to read the whole book. I couldn’t stop reading until the end. The Warrior Mindset is an eye-opener to those who may have lost hope in making their lives turn around. Every word written is something that anyone can relate to. Whether you are a parent, an employee or an entrepreneur, this is a real must-have book which you can just open up and read when you feel that you are hanging by a thread.
