The Unwelcomed Visitor

By the start of 2020, the Philippines have been plagued with various issues. From the eruption of the Taal Volcano, the never-ending talk about the franchise renewal of ABS CBN, and the worst, the COVID 19 threat which has affected thousands of lives . Every end of the year, we have always prayed for a better new year ahead. And while we continue to seek for the best things to come, the things that happen around us is not in our hands. The effect of COVID 19 worldwide has implications that have created a hole in the economy. Having an enemy invisible to the naked eye, it is truly hard to determine who has been infected. And for some reason, some individuals could not just understand what the community quarantine is all about. I am not a fanatic of any political party or politician. But when I think that something that they want to impose for the country is beneficial, I am all for that. It is funny how others see community quarantine as a form of Martial Law because by...

How Are You Juan?

It’s just the second month of 2020 and yet we have already been bombarded with so many problems. Apart from the Swine Flu that affected so many hog raisers in the last part of last year, a series of uncertain events followed. The recent eruption of Taal Volcano was truly a huge surprise for everyone because it has remained calm for the last 60 years. Although we know that there is no exact time when the eruption will happen again, we will never be calm in such a situation. No matter how much we think we are prepared for such calamities, still, each of us is always left worried about how to start our lives all over again. Taal Volcano Eruption My heart goes to all those who have been displaced because of the eruption. And indeed, seeing how the young children and the elderly have to deal with this is just devasting. It was also painful seeing all the animals that were left on the volcano island. And I know that their owns wouldn’t want to leave them because of the...

When Gratitude Becomes Your Saving Grace

The year is almost at its end, and yet we still see people who have made their New Year’s resolutions remain to be part of their list that never got anywhere. There are so many people who always wish to make something different in their lives when the New Year comes. They all seem to have all the hope that they and start changing their lives, to improve their lives. However, it is so sad that the list just remains a dream and never have these people made any efforts in trying to make them happen. Now, we just have about two weeks before we start another new year, have you contemplated about how 2019 was to you? Were there any changes in your life that helped you in a positive way? Or were there times that life challenged you that you almost gave up? We all experience different things and we also treat them differently. Some people may see a problem as a burden while others thank for it since it become a life’s lesson to them that allowed them to renew themselves and becom...

Philippine English…. As We Know It

Image
The homework of my son has tickled my mind and so, I decided to write something about it. But, at the same time, a short conversation with a friend who was telling me about a dilemma that he is experiencing with work. This is not to offend anyone, but, I guess, this should be a realization, especially those who are in the corporate world. We know that the English language is internationally recognized. And that is why we have 12 years of learning (because of the K to 12 educational system now) the language. From the basics during grade school until high school and advanced English skills in College. So, why do we need to learn the language when we are also taught to be patriotic? It is not turning away from your country if you are learning the  English language because knowing how to read, write, and speak the English language allows you to explore the world right in your hands. Imagine what a waste it can be if we don’t know how to understand English, then the P...

Surviving Christmas on a Tight Budget

How are you doing with your Christmas shopping so far? For sure, most moms have started making their list as early as June and take advantage of all the tiangee and bazaars that are scattered all over Metro Manila to find the best deals. Just like any smart mom, looking into the tiniest details has become sort of a habit mainly because money is not as easy as plucking fruits from their trees. Therefore, we want to make sure that everything that we buy is worth every cent that we spend. When doing your Christmas Shopping list, what comes on the first spot? Is it the gifts that you would buy for your family and friends? The food that you will be preparing for the Noche Buena? Or the Christmas decorations to have the real feel of Christmas. Actually, I have never been as vigilant as listing all the possible expenses come Christmas. But since we have been experiencing an increase in prices here and there, any smart mom should be prepared for the holiday expenses. Hold on ...
